Join Kids Right to Know and Gen-Earth for an inspirational screening of Modified: A Food Lover’s Journey into GMOs at the Total Health Show. In the award-winning new documentary Modified, the filmmaker and her mother embark on a very personal and poignant investigative journey to find out why genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are not labeled on food products in the United States and Canada, despite being labeled in 64 countries around the world.
About the Event:
The film screening of Modified will be followed by a Q&A with Rachel Parent, a raffle, and an opportunity to learn, exchange seeds and connect with other like-minded changemakers interested in the protection of nature’s diversity, seed freedom and growing healthy organic food. Don’t forget to bring organic seeds to exchange!

About the Organizer:
This event will be hosted by Rachel Parent, youth activist, food environment speaker, and the founder of Kids Right to Know.
At 11 years old, Rachel began researching for a school project and became alarmed by what she learned about GMOs. This gave her the spark to become an activist fighting for our right to know what’s in our food by making GMO labeling a law in Canada. That spark evolved into what’s now known as Kids Right To Know, a not-for-profit organization that she founded to inform the public, especially other children, about food safety.

My wish is that GMOs will be labeled, creating more awareness, and leading to a reduced consumer demand for foods containing GMOs. I would like to know that our future is safe and in perfect balance with nature, with plenty of fresh, local organic farming to supply everyone.” – Rachel Parent
About the Film:
Shot over a span of ten years, the film explores the impacts of genetically engineering our food, exposing the cozy relationship between the agribusiness industry and our governments. The film is anchored in the intimate story of the filmmaker’s relationship to her mom, an organic gardener, seed saver, and food activist who battled cancer while the film’s production was underway.
Interweaving the personal and the political, the film uses family video archives, animations, and mouth-watering vignettes from the filmmakers award-winning PBS cooking show to create a visual celebration of homegrown food and family legacy. The film debunks the myth that GMOs are needed to feed the world and makes a compelling plea for a more sustainable and transparent food system.
